Trekking in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan
Xishuangbanna is the subtropical part of Yunnan province bordering Laos and Myanmar. The area is the home to China’s many ethnic minority people, with the Dai being the dominant group. To the Dai people, Xishuangbanna was known as 'Mengbanaxi' in ancient times, a name that means a miraculous and nice utopia, for the fertile land that enables the cultivation of many crops including rice and tea. It is also the origin of the ancient “Tea and Horse Road”, AKA the “Southern Silk Road”, as it is where the tea tree originates from. The famous fermented tea called “Pu’er” also originated from here.
We have designed this 5 day trip for visitors to experience the most authentic side of Xishuangbanna. You will be trekking in the jungle, visit a very colorful local market, and trek through tea and rice plantations to villages where locals grow and process tea as well as make the traditional wares. To top off the experience, on one of the days, you will be eating and sleeping at a Bulang family’s home.
