5 Days Yixian and Wuyuan Ancient Villages and Jingdezhen Porcelain Discovery Tour
Located near the foot of the Yellow Mountain, Yixian and Wuyuan are neighboring prefectures located in Anhui and Jiangxi respectively. This landlocked area had once been the remote backwaters of the two provinces. It features some of the most untouched rural landscape and ancient architecture dating back as far as the Tang Dynasty in 740 AD.
Among the most well-known village in Yixian is Hongcun and Nanping. Both are film sites for the academy award winning movie “Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon”. We will visit Nanping, which still retains much of its original character compared to many other places. We will do a scenic hike from near Nanping to Mukeng, taking in the beautiful autumn foliage. Wuyuan in Jiangxi province is just a stone throw away from Yixian. Here one will find some of the most beautiful rural landscape in China. Here we’ll be located at a county town called Qinghua, and conduct hikes to the nearby countryside for 2 days.
We end our trip in Jingdezhen, the porcelain production capital of not only China but the entire world. Records show that production of quality pottery started as early as 1700 years ago. The town rose to fame when it was given the name Jingdezhen in 1004 AD during the reign of the emperor Jing De in the North Song Dynasty. Since then most ceramics for royal use in China had come from Jingdezhen. We’ll spend a day in Jingdezhen to discover the vast treasures this city has in relation to porcelain production.
