One day Getaway at Dong Shan
Connected by a causeway to the mainland, Dong Shan is quietly situated on the banks of the Tai Lake, just south of Suzhou. Dong Shan peninsula is characterized by the rural surroundings of tea plantations, and fruit orchards, plus some hidden sites of historical interest. We'll be hiking up to the peak of the highest hill in Dong Shan for a spectacular view of the Tai Lake before we descend upon a hidden ancient village dotted with fruit orchards and gardens.
Autumn is the time for harvesting of mandarin oranges, while spring is the season when the fruit trees blossom. Most fruit orchards are open to visitors at that time for fruit picking, which is something we should not miss if the opportunity arises.

Trip feedback
"I took part in this trip recently in March. A really great day trip out of Shanghai that allows you to see some of the local countryside and an ancient village with a local guide and an English speaking trip leader from Shanghai Outing Club. Good Chinese food included too!" - Julie Foord
"Hiking with Fly has exceeded my expectations. I’ve been on two separate trips and both have been a wonderful excursion including beautiful scenery, the opportunity to experience historical and cultural aspects of China in smaller towns and villages in addition to the hike itself.
The other bonus is meeting interesting people living or visiting Shanghai from around the world. Fly, as our expert guide, makes seeing the beauty in China easy as she takes care of everything from transportation to arranging lunch with locals. I would go every weekend if it were possible." - Tammy Reddinger
